On Friday June 24, UAC had a visit from the Upper Uwchlan Junior Police Academy! The campers were visiting to learn more about how EMS and Police interact in emergency situations. There were approximately 20 campers, who went through several learning stations. They learned about CPR, First Aid, Immobilization, Allergic Reactions, Heat / Cold Emergencies, and Patient Lifting and Moving. Campers also took a tour of a ambulance and learned how to use various pieces of equipment and even got to try on our protective gear! Everyone had a great time, and we can’t wait to have them back again next year!!
Uwchlan Ambulance Corps (UAC) is a private non-profit Ambulance, that provides 911 (Emergency) Ambulance Response for all or parts of 7 townships in Chester County, PA. UAC hosts a number of community events and ambulance demonstrations each year, including 5 weeks of our own kids summer camps. We offer 4 different levels of camps (pre-junior medic camp, Junior Medic Camp, Advanced Junior Medic Camp, and Wilderness Junior Medic Camp) through out the summer where kids have the opportunity to learn everything from basic First Aid / CPR, to Wilderness First Aid, to Emergency Medical Responder. We even do Pet first aid!! If you are interested in learning more, please click on the “Training” tab above. We hope to see you around the station soon!
Our next camp is the Junior Medic Camp, for kids in late elementary school – early middle school. This camp focuses on obtaining First Aid and CPR certifications. Campers will be introduced to various types of first responders such as the fire service, police departments, and other EMS agencies, in addition to traditional camp activities. Upon successful completion of the skills for professional rescuer CPR and First Aid at the conclusion of camp, the campers will be eligible for certification in those disciplines. There is still room in this camp, which begins July 11 and runs through July 14, 9-4 each day.
