Glenmoore Fire Company let our Explorers into their world on Tuesday October 3, 2017.
Uwchlan Ambulance would like to extend a huge thank you to Glenmoore Fire Company for offering your facility for this wonderful and informative demonstration, as well as letting all of the Explorer’s into your family for the evening!
The Explorer’s had an excellent opportunity to meet the firefighter’s, tour Rescue 48, and then see a car being taken apart using the equipment on the Rescue Truck.
The Explorer’s had the chance to meet Glenmoore Fire Company members, leadership, and Fire Police. They were able to join the firefighter’s for pizza and ask questions about what they do, how they got into it, and how they are not afraid to run into a fire.
It took the crew about 30 minutes to fully take apart the car. There was no patient in the vehicle, as this was for practice and demonstration, and some extra time was taken for explanation for the Explorer’s. The firefighter’s first stabilized the car, then cut all power to it, and then started to open and take off the doors. They used a myriad of tools to do anything from breaking the windows, cutting the seat belts, stabilizing the car, cutting and spreading the metal, to cleaning up afterwards. This was a fantastic exercise to not only demonstrate to the Explorer’s, but also for the fire company to be able to practice. The Explorer’s saw a lot of team work, communication, and leadership during this demonstration.
Some of the Explorer’s even had the opportunity to work with the cutters themselves to cut a post!
Again, a huge thank you to Glenmoore Fire Company for this wonderful, informative, and fun demonstration!
